Yes, we have finally decided on a proper name for the Schmoodles; Langston August Smith. Of course, it'll be difficult for him to shake Schmoodle. We spent some quality time with Langston ("Auggie" for short) during his first day post utero. For instance, we: changed diapers soiled with meconium stools (which has the consistency of tar--in fact, there must be some industrial use for this substance); watched him attempt to latch on to his new food source (sometimes successfully); recovered from invasive abdominal surgery and engaged in lots of cuddling. We find Langston to be quite an extraordinary little guy.
Thanks to all of you who provided much needed support throughout Langston's journey to the outside world and all of the terrific comments posted here on the blog and other social media sites. Here is a sample of photos that document our first day together.

ReplyDeleteDear Langston August Smith,
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to let you know that you are the most adorable angel I have ever met. You have truly stolen my heart. I love you more than you know.
Love
Aunt Debbie
Scott and Les. I love the name it seems fitting. You were right Scott Langston most certainly resembles the Lovely Leslie. I just can't get over the hair and I have to admit he is the most adorable little "alien" I have ever seen. You both certainly did a great job. I can't wait to meet him in person. I am going to cuddle him until he tells me "back off you crazy lady I am thirty years old already don't you think it's time you cut the chord." Of course I will have to rip him out of my daughters, son's, Chris's, and your arms first. So stand back because here I come, Crazed Aunt Deborah. You have no idea how much I love all three of you.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the photos, Daddy. He's an incredible looking little person, and no doubt will be an incredible person. I'm looking forward to being his Tita. :) (Really? Can we call him Auggie?) How about some photos of Mommy and Daddy too? :)
ReplyDeleteAmazing that he should have such dark hair and blue eyes, just as I predicted. No? Well, we will see. The Dutch has to show up somewhere. Maybe Langston will just be very thrifty. Anyway, he has lots of hair like his daddy did when he was born, but obviously, Leslie's genes win out. I will be there to inspect him close up and personal, and we will have a talk! This little guy has a lot to live up to since his family is made up of so much love that his heart will need to be very big to hold it all. Until Saturday, my little Langston... Kisses and hugs to Mommy and Daddy because you are definitely going to give them a run for their money. With love from your Oma
ReplyDeleteYEAH!!!! Welcome Langston! Congrats Scott and Leslie!
ReplyDeleteHe's just gorgeous!!! Way cuter than "Olivia," but I do see both of you in him. And you picked a beautiful name, too. I can't wait to meet him--let me know when you're ready for me to be your au pair!
ReplyDeletePerfection, of course! Welcome to the world, Langston! You lucked out in the parent department!
ReplyDeleteHe is so gorgeous! What a head of hair! He is a perfect mix of you both...enjoy every minute of him!
ReplyDeletefantastic! ten fingers ten toes, and a wicked cute smile, looks like Scott in the second picture plotting a joke. I am sure Langston will surprise and impress you for years to come. So glad you did the blog, perhaps continued through the teen years?
ReplyDeleteAmazing! He is beautiful!...(tear)
ReplyDeleteBut please tell us this, why must he play the saddest chords of all chords?
anyhoo, congratulations! We wish you all the best, many hugs and kisses

You dreamer,
Bring me all your
Heart melodies
That I may wrap them
In a blue cloud-cloth
Away from the too-rough fingers
Of the world.
Auggie..know that your family will protect, love and care for you so that all of your dreams come true. Love to you, Les and Scotty

My little Schmoo aka The Langston August Smith, I am so touched by all the comments posted on this blog. You are truly coming into a world full of love! Your parents specially can't get enough of you. They haven't left your side in almost three days! I am so very lucky to be a witness to all this love and be a part of it. To all your other Grandparents, they must be so envious and anxious to meet you. Thank you everyone for your caring and affectionate comments. Have a very peaceful Christmas Holiday!
ReplyDeleteLove,
Lola Evelyn
I can't stop looking at the photos! He's so amazing - I feel like I have always known him. I can't wait to be buds with him. (I think Jon may already be planning his first trip to the casino with him, in roughly 21 years. ;)

ReplyDeleteMy regards to Lola Evelyn for getting Leslie and Scott through the most difficult time and being there in future weeks during the transition. I look forward to my time with her also as I leave for Geneva in the morning. Poor Dejah will have a very bent nose when our illustrious Langston comes home to take charge!
